About the Artist
Janice Rago Carse is a fine artist based in Decatur, Georgia. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Valdosta State University in 2009 and has developed a distinctive visual language that brings together figurative oil painting, florals, pattern, texture, and expressive mark-making.
Her work often centers on the female figure and explores the tension between control and letting go, reflecting on themes of growth, identity, change, and our connection to the natural world. Carefully rendered forms exist alongside loose gestures, layered materials, and unexpected moments of abstraction- a balance between intention and instinct that has become central to her practice.
Working across intimate studio pieces, large-scale paintings, and public art, Rago is continually interested in the space between the refined and the imperfect, allowing each piece to evolve organically through the process of making.
“Art has always been a space for me to process and express what words often cannot. I’m drawn to that balance between control and letting go, and I hope viewers can find pieces of their own experiences within the work.”
